Before knowing about how to add gasket in the uPVC casement window, one should know why it is important to fix the gasket in windows and doors. Gasket keeps the warm air inside and gives much better insulation. It also helps in decreasing the drafts and thus protects from heat. It also decreases the level of noise that comes from outside of busy roads or railway tracks. Moreover, this keeps the rain, breeze, and the elements with condensation, out, which are harmful to walls and windows.
Types of Gasket:
- Natural rubber gasket:
The natural rubber is made from polymers of isoprene which consist of some impurities of an organic compound including water. This rubber is heated at a temperature of 180 degrees Celsius. It has good resistance of abrasion with the best elongation, tear strength, and high tensile. These are acid-resistant. It has a 95% pure natural rubber.
- Neoprene gasket:
This gasket is made from synthetic black rubber. It is very versatile to the harsh environments because it is oil and petroleum resistance. The neoprene has good résistance of oils, dilute acids, solvents, and alkalis.
- EPDM:
This gasket is very popular and versatile; it is heat, sunlight, and aging resistance. It has the feature of water, acids, oxidants, and steam resistance. This rubber is the best choice for outdoor applications as it is resistant to harsh weather conditions.
How Gasket installs in casement windows
Good manufacturers are using EPDM gasket which comes with a high-quality range. This protects the window and walls from harmful noise, air, and UV rays. It is easy to install a gasket in the casement window. Once the outer frame of the window is made, it’s time to add gasket at the inner layer of the outer frame. The next step is to adjust the glass on the window, as the measurement of glass is already been taken. Another is a right-handed window whose lock is on the left side and hinge is on the right side. A casement window can be made with hinges or Friction Stay/ Restrictor Arm. With hinges window can be opened at 90 degrees wherein with friction stay/ restrictor arm window can be opened up to 75 degrees. Parts of Casement window:
The casement window is made from different thing, material, and parts, so here we are going to discuss regarding the different parts of casement windows:
- Sash
This part plays a very important role in such windows as they hold glass tightly at a place and keep it safe from getting a break. Sash can be moved inside and outside which depends on how it was made. The sash is hold up by hinge/ Friction stay which is located on side of window whether on left or right; now days hinge comes on top also, such type of window is known as awning window. The sash must get install and construct properly. If it is not done then it can distort and warp by time and may leak and stop locking efficiently. This can cause a reduction in the efficiency of the window and the security of your home.
- Locking handle
The lock is an important part of any window or door, in casement; there are single locking point and multiple locking points. In the single lock, there is only one lock that is at the center and in multiple locking points there are more than 1 lock points, one is on top, another is on bottom and rest is in the middle.
- Keeper
This is the part of the locking handle only; it’s a hook of the lock at the side of the window. The keeper secures the sash so that it doesn’t get open.
- Hinge/ Friction Stay
The hinge/ Friction stay has a different role for casement windows which allows the sash to swing outward or inward. These are located on the side of the sash, one of the top and another is at the bottom.
- Gas ket
The gas kit is installed in the window to hold the Glass of a window. This protects the glass from any movement from wind or air. The size of the gas kit gets change with the change in the size of the glass used in the window. The gas kit increases the strength of glass and also increases the durability of glass.
